Lost an In-Store Walmart Receipt? Card Lookup and Cash Purchase Help
Choose the recovery route for the way you paid, then keep confirmed totals separate from missing item details.

A missing paper receipt from a Walmart store needs a different starting point from an online order. First identify how you paid and which branch handled the purchase. That helps you choose the retailer's recovery route before making a personal record of what you remember.
This guide covers US in-store purchases. For pickup, delivery or shipped orders, use our separate Walmart online-order receipt guide. A physical shopping trip and a website order should not be treated as the same search problem.
Start with your own Walmart purchase history
Walmart's official store-receipt guidance says qualifying purchases made with a saved payment card can appear in Purchase History. Check the account associated with your purchase before starting another search.
Match the store, date and total against your own records. Do not select a nearby purchase just because its amount looks familiar. If you locate the original receipt, save it as the source and stop treating that purchase as missing.
For a debit or credit card purchase, prepare the lookup details
Use Walmart's receipt lookup on Walmart's own website. Its first step asks for the purchase location; choose the store where you actually checked out.
The help page lists the purchase date, receipt total, card type and last four digits as lookup details. Complete the site's verification and download an available result.
Prepare those details privately before opening the form. Your card statement may help you identify a candidate purchase, but check that it relates to the correct store visit. Do not enter another person's payment details or post your card information in a public support message. CMR does not run Walmart's lookup or retrieve its receipts for you.
Paid cash or used another payment method?
The same Walmart help page directs customers with payment methods other than debit or credit cards to its Chat with us support option. Ask what help is available for your purchase.
Describe the visit with the information you actually have: store, date, approximate time, amount and any surviving paper or photo. Keep uncertain details marked as uncertain. A cash withdrawal is not evidence of the exact basket bought later, and a memory of the total does not establish every item price. This guide does not promise that support can recover every receipt.
Keep a short search log when nothing matches
Record the branch you checked, the purchase you were trying to locate and the outcome. A useful note might be: “Store purchase, date confirmed, total confirmed, item breakdown still missing.” This keeps a failed search from turning into a guessed receipt.
If paper is damaged or faded, photograph what remains while it is readable. Preserve both the original and the image. When a result looks close but the location or total differs, keep looking rather than changing your record to fit that result. Contact the retailer for unresolved mismatches.
Example: a confirmed total with unknown items
Imagine that a payment record supports a $67.42 store purchase, but the receipt cannot be recovered. That is a hypothetical recordkeeping example, not a Walmart price. You can retain the confirmed total and source reference in your personal files. You cannot infer how much was household supplies, groceries or tax from that total alone.
If the receipt is recovered later, update the existing personal entry and attach the document. Avoid creating a second $67.42 expense for the same purchase. Keep a simple status such as “original recovered” so you can tell which records still need attention.
Make a personal record only from confirmed details
When the original cannot be recovered, the CMR editor and published Walmart receipt template can help arrange a personal record. Replace the example store, address, date and item text. Leave unsupported details blank, and keep your surviving evidence. A CMR-created record is not a Walmart-issued original and does not guarantee acceptance for a return or reimbursement.
With applicable paid export access, summary CSV can help sort reviewed store purchases by date or merchant. Itemized CSV and Excel/XLSX help organize supported item details when you have them. A clean receipt-file purchase alone does not include CSV/XLSX access. Review confirmed structured amounts before exporting: changing printed wording does not automatically update numeric data. See the help center for export steps.
Keep the original file, your search note and any personal record connected. The purpose is a clearer purchase history with visible gaps, not a polished substitute for missing evidence.
